The Polish People's Republic as seen through the lenses of students and graduates of Lodz Film School (1949-1960), 2007

While preparing the book, Joanna Preizner watched and analysed over two hundred student etudes made at the Łódź Film School until 1960. Thanks to that, she managed to present a coherent, detailed, suggestive and very convincing picture of the reality of the early years of Polish People's Republic, emerging from films made by young adepts of directing.

The author has an impressive knowledge of the era she presents. The success of her work is also due to the extraordinary solidity in showing the historical, cultural, political, social and artistic background of the period of 1949-1960. This applies not only to official facts, but also to the general aura of that time: social moods, fears and hopes of people, artistic activities, and even various tastes, prejudices, fashions and gossips.
